These are an excellent rugged pair of short gaiters, in a very tough canvas with leather trimming with traditional metal clasps and hooks, thick cotton lacing and nylon straps under the soles. Used by Italy’s elite “Alpini” mountain troops, the design remains largely the same since WWII.
We hand-wax the olive canvas for extra water-repellancy and it really brings out the absolutely fantastic and timeless olive green colour of the canvas.
As short gaiters these are very easy to live with and use, quick to put on and take off and are perfect for tramping through brush and scrub, mud or crossing streams, without the need for wearing full knee-length gaiters. When not in use they don’t take as much room in your pack, but although not full length make no mistake these provide tough and rugged protection for your lower legs and ankles. The very thick canvas and all the fittings are as tough as can be and certainly look like they would never fail no matter what you put them through. Made for the Italian Army in the 1970’s and 80’s the supply we have secured is brand new old stock and has never been used, so are in perfect condition just ready to be given some hard use again.
These have been used all over the world in a wide range of environments, and we also supplied these gaiters to the BBC film crew for use in the Australian bush while filming the Top Gear Australia Special (which featured our Adventurer Canvas Bedrolls).
