A new addition to the Wynnchester “Recon” reconditioned vintage military range, this small side bag from the Swiss Army is made from thick canvas and rich leather, with a solid alloy buckle closure. An adjustable 2cm full grain leather shoulder strap is solidly attached to the bag’s leather side panels with saddle stitching around aluminium rivets. We hand-wax the canvas and treat the leather to bring these dry dusty articles back to life. As with other vintage Swiss Army gear from this era the leather is stamped with the date and place of manufacture, and some date back to 1939 but can still be recovered to a good usable condition, whilst retaining all the patina you’d expect from these materials and that sort of age.
A very useful small size at 24cm wide, 18 cm high and 7 cm deep, this great side bag (which was originally made to hold spare ammunition for the famous and devilishly accurate Swiss Army K31 rifle) it finds many uses – for maps, papers, valuables, binoculars, a motorbike or vehicle repair kit, first aid, as well as general bushcraft tools – it will even take a fly box and reel for fly fishing.
But whatever it carries, like many vintage items made in natural materials and in the old ways, it always carries a strong sense of simplicity, practicality and robustness – a sense which tends to rub off on the user as well.
